St. Thomas’ Church, Whitemarsh, will dedicate its recently installed outdoor labyrinth after the 9:30 a.m. service on Nov. 1, All Saint’s Day. From 3 – 4 p.m., the church’s 48-bell carillon will be played to accompany anyone wishing to experience a labyrinth walk.
St. Thomas’ carillonneur, Lisa Lonie, will play specially chosen music to allow for a quiet, meditative walk. People may start their walk at any time during the hour and volunteers will be on hand to provide guidance and suggestions for walking the labyrinth.
The outdoor labyrinth is located on St. Thomas’ property at Camp Hill Road and Bethlehem Pike, in the grove between the church and the church office, near the flag pole. It was installed in July by Robert Ferré, one of the founders of Labyrinth Enterprises, LLC, (www.labyrinth-enterprises.com). The company was formed in October 1995, to meet the increasing demand for technical and instructional information pertaining to labyrinths. More than 1 million people have walked the 1,000-plus labyrinths Mr. Ferré’s company has made.
Ms. Lonie has been carillonneur of St. Thomas' Church since 1999. Known for her musical wit and creative programming, Ms. Lonie is a frequent recitalist throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. She is a highly respected performer and recording artist with more than 30 years of musical experience with the carillon.
